WHEEING, W.Va. — The 12th Wheeling Vintage Raceboat Regatta takes place this weekend at Heritage Port.

The regatta will feature more than 30 boats from across the eastern United States. Registration takes place on Friday and Saturday. Opening ceremonies take place at 9:45 a.m. with first heat starting at 10.

There will also be live entertainment. Ken Warby, an Australian motorboat racer, will be honored with a prestigious award.

“Ken is the world’s fastest man on water, set the record of 317.58 miles an hour in October 1978 and that record has never been broken, so we will be honoring him with our Lauterbach award,” said Debbie Joseph, Regatta co-director.

Organizers of the Wheeling Vintage Raceboat Regatta gathered at the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center to plan.

Easter Seals receives a donation from the Regatta proceeds.

The Regatta takes place Friday through Sunday.
