Hopp Racing is pleased to announce it’s continued support of APBA Grand Prix Racing. Jerry and Greg Hopp purchased the GNH-18 from George Conover Jr & Sr. from Egg Harbor New Jersey. The boat finished 1st place in the GNH class in 2016. Jerry flew back to New Jersey to look at the equipment. The boat and equipment is in first class condition. On Jerry’s boat racing bucket list, has always been to campaign a GP with the Carb-gas-blower motor. Jerry was committee Chair in 2007 and wrote the GP rule change to go from the 511ci blower motor to the current 468ci motor. The lower cost helped revive the GP Hydro class. The class now has 12 GP’s in the USA, 12 GP’s in Canada and at least 6 or 7 GP’s “Down Under”. Jerry said “This is the perfect boat for this project. Has a 20 gallon gas fuel tank in it, no need to pull the decks off and put a 30 gallon methanol fuel cell in. Take the 468ci GNH motor change the high compression pistons to some flat top pistons, add a carb and blower and away we go!!!” Should be easy on equipment. Jerry was also kicking around the idea of an all female crew....This boat is race ready, so not much to do to get it ready to go. Beautiful paint job on it. At 71 years of age, holding 3 APBA GP speed records including the 1/4 mile straightaway at 170+ mph, and an APBA member for 49 years Jerry wanted to give something back to the sport he loves. Sharing driving duties between the 2 Hopp Grand Prix will be Brent Hall. Brent co drove the GP-15 happy Go Lucky with Jerry placing 3rd place in the GP Hi-points for 2017. Let the fun begin, bring on the Noise, Speed and Spray.
